As highlighted in the Robb Report in September, Ferrari recently unveiled the next-generation F8 Spider in tandem with the front-engined 812 GTS. With the latter paying tribute to the Prancing Horse’s V-12 heritage, the F8 Spider looks to the future, which is dominated by V-8 engine variants.
The F8 Spider takes the essentials of the popular F8 Tributo and outfits it with a retractable hardtop that has been designed to maximize aerodynamics. The top opens and closes in 14 seconds, at speeds of up to 28 mph, and the F8 Spider also has more than half of its weight distributed to the back. The eight-cylinder, 720 HP engine is mid-rear-mounted and offers 568 ft lbs of torque with no turbo lag.
Having earned the International Engine of the Year award continuously since 2016, the engine is a pioneer in incorporating a gasoline particulate filter designed to meet new homologation standards. The slight performance loss due to the filter has been made up for by improving the layout of the car’s intake and cooling system.
